Q: How are projects assigned? What types of projects should I expect to receive?
A: Projects are assigned by a variety of attorneys and coordinated through the assigned Project Coordinator. Either your Project Coordinator or the assigning attorney will give you projects in the areas that you indicate an interest and/or the firm has a need. These projects are usually billable and are intended to give you a real taste of the quality and sophistication of our work and clients.
Q: Do you have a mentor program?
A: Yes. We assign a Project Coordinator/Mentor team to each summer associate. The Project Coordinator is a partner responsible for your workflow. Two Associate Mentors are responsible for helping you navigate through the firm. You and your mentors are encouraged to spend time together out of the office to get to know each other better.
Q: How are summer associates evaluated?
A: Through feedback regularly gathered from attorneys. In addition, you will receive a midsummer and final review.
Q: What is the salary?
A: You will be paid $1,750/week. You also receive free parking, a secretary and an office.
Q: Can I split summers?
A: While we prefer that you spend the full summer with us (so you get to know our firm better and we get to know you better), we will consider split summers on a case-by-case basis.
Q: Do summer associates have billable hours requirements?
A: No. Summer associates average about 40 billable hours a week. This allows time for you to participate in non-billable activities like observing a deposition, training and attending trials, closings and mediations.
Q: What type of training and social activities do you offer?
A: Click here to check out our variety of training programs and social activities we offer throughout the summer. Summer associates are also encouraged to attend our in-house attorney training programs on business development and substantive law.
Q: How does the interview process work?
A: We interview on-campus in two-attorney teams. Students who receive callbacks will typically meet 12 attorneys (usually an even mix of Partners and Associates). They will be interviewed in teams of two, as well, for 25 minutes each, including lunch with two associates.
Q: How many summer associates will you hire for the 2008?
A: Usually between 2-4 first year summer associates.
Q: What is your dress policy?
A: Our attorneys wear professional attire Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, we are business casual unless there is a client meeting, court appearance or other events where professional attire is required.
